Danny Holmes

Danny Holmes served in the Life Guards from 1983 – 1994, having being born and brought up in London. His service was largely spent in Windsor and North Germany, but he also served in the first Gulf War from 1990–91 with 7 Armoured Brigade (The Desert Rats).

On leaving the forces he became a HGV driver and was severely injured in a traffic accident in 2005, losing his right leg above the knee and 3rd degree burns to 40% of his body as a result. After a lengthy recovery he has retrained and now has an NVQ2 in childcare and health and social care, working with both adults and children with learning difficulties. He is also an advanced open water diver, specialising in boat, night and nitrox diving.

In order to take part in the challenge, Danny has learned to drive a pair of horses. He sees helping with the fund raising part of the challenge as a chance to repay some of the benefits that he has received from service charities following his accident.
